Neat cups at my local café

The simple good is critical, in my mind. Small things that make the world a slightly better place; a little brighter, a little happier, a bit more whimsical.

Things like hipster animals on latte mugs.

Specifically at my local cafĂ©, a few blocks down from my apartment here in Wilsonville. I’m sure I’ll find something similar in Dublin, and in all the cities that I travel through between here and there… but for now, these cute hipster animals are definitely making the mornings I stop in that much happier.

Daytime meals around Wilsonville

As a quick departure from the words-heavy posts that I’ll be making, regarding my preparations and move out of the United States, here are a few quick pictures of some of the more interesting meals I’ve been having during the days while I’m not at work.

I have a lot of planning to do, but I’ve learned that cerebral work like that requires time away from the screen to succeed. Time for my brain to process what I’m working on, notice patterns, and connect dots to find inconsistencies or weak links in the plan. When I don’t, things go wrong. To make sure they go right, I take walks and eat sandwiches. Or gorge on dinosaur chicken nuggets.

I sip Lattes too, of course. I am still in Oregon, after all.

Oregon Snow

Wilsonville, and the Portland are in general, don’t tend to get much snow. Once or twice a year we get a bit of a storm, everything shuts down, and I get the chance to smell the beautifully cold air of the snow from the comfort of my own neighborhood.

This year was no different – As the middle of January came around, we got a storm, and everything (except my office, for some reason…) shut down. I ended up working from home, and so was able to appreciate the impressive sheet of ice that covered the world around me. It wasn’t as intense as that one ice storm back in… 2021, maybe…? but it was definitely a good chance to strap on my crampons and go out for a winter adventure!

Pancakes included, obviously. Along with a bite of gloriously home-made ramen, and a cup of coffee from a lovely little cafe nearby that also braved the storm!
