An evening at the Sackville Lounge

After a day of home improvement, what does one do? One, and ones partner, head out onto the town for a fancy bar takeover!

Aside from the home improvement, and the excitement of the bar takeover (which is when one bar sends their bartenders to another bar for an evening, I’ve learned), we were also having a slightly melancholy celebration for a classmate and friend of ours – it was the end of her time in Dublin, before heading out of town for a new job… and so we absolutely needed to celebrate her in style.

I’ll say – it was a rather excellent evening.

A spot of home improvement

The weekend previous, Andrea had moved in!

Her lease was ending, we’d been dating for 10 months, and we’d had all the requisite conversations – we’d scenario planned, talked details, gamed out thoughts, and talked generalities. We did all the things, had all the prep time, and we felt good.

One of things things that came out of the conversations, unsurprisingly, was that this was originally my apartment – and thus, some reorganization needed to happen. Some improvements made.

The chance for this engineer to show off, and this designer (Andrea, not me) to optimize a bit of layout.

Additionally, a chance for Ben to buy rods, and saws, and extra tools!!!

We had fun, if the pictures don’t make that obvious.

Ben’s wee day out

It was a hot August day, and I was going to get some adventure in whether the Universe wanted me to or not.

The plan had originally been to hike Ben Bulben – rent a car, traipse out to the West Coast of Ireland, and leverage the long summer days to get me all the sunlight that I’d need to summit, then return home.

Unfortunately, that plan got waylaid – My car rental app thing required a re-registration, and had cancelled itself on me. I submitted it, of course, but it’d be a 7-day+ waiting period to get it approved… and in the mean time, no cars for Ben.

Instead, I packed a lunch, some water and some coffee, and hopped on the bike to explore Phoenix Park. It wasn’t ideal, to be sure, since I couldn’t listen to music while cycling, and I couldn’t watch the Midlands flash by as I made my way to the West, but… you know what?

Sometimes, we iterate.

Sometimes, we do the best we can, regardless of what happens.

And sometimes, we get to photograph semi-domesticated deer populations in a massive in-city walled park.
