Thanksgiving! Last year, Thanksgiving was a bit too busy for me to fly back to the United States… classes, and general insanity, conspired to keep me in Dublin. Which, frankly, was a perfectly lovely time with friends and classmates. 2025, however, had none of those challenges… and thus, saw Andrea and I winging our way to New England for a well-deserved holiday…

I can say, without any major doubt, that this was the best play I’ve ever seen.
Is that surprising? No, not really. I mean, it’s on Broadway. It won basically all the awards. It shouldn’t have been a surprise.
But it still was, somehow.
I adore theater – I appreciate the physical aspect of it, and I enjoy the time and effort and simple raw humanity that it requires. And for Maybe Happy Ending, I adored all of it. Two standouts:
– The set design. Just absolutely amazing, kinetic, and really cool. It hit a beautiful mix between complicated and simple, and it simply just worked.
– The theme. I love a plot that’s enjoyable on its own, but that also includes some kind of meta-commentary. The main characters are androids, and it considers what happens when a helper-AI is no longer needed. An obviously important question, as generative AI becomes more widespread… But it also alludes to what happens when our pets get surrendered to a shelter, or what happens to our aging parents when they can no longer live alone.
It was really great.
