A successful Saturday in April

Standard

Saturday, 12-Apr-14

I have a love-hate relationship with lazy weekends.  For one, they’re amazing and I love not having to do anything or be anywhere.  But on the other,  I don’t like “wasting” gorgeous weekends.  I love adventuring and exploring and doing… and staying home generally doesn’t allow me to do that.

Well, this weekend, thankfully, it did.  I relaxed, chilled, and went on more than a few small adventures.  I even got the whole front garden fixed up!

  • Breakfast by 11:00 at Kelly’s
  • Lets get stuff done!  Nope… instead, let’s just set ourselves in the park and finish reading Ocean at the End of the Lane
  • Head home and pull out all the gardening toys; turn the soil, plant the bulbs, and start the peas going.
  • Get the peas all planted, set some stakes, and then go inside to set the tomatoes going… wait, I didn’t leave any room in the planters for tomatoes.  <shrug>
  • Plant some more, play with the tomatoes, and relax for a bit
  • Quesadillas for lunch… very late lunch, but chicken quesadillas are amazing
  • go buy a steak from McKinnons, then take a nice slow walk around the area
  • Game or two with Chirag on League, we clean house
  • Steak for dinner, chilling and watching movies

A weekend of adventures, climbing, and TEDx

Standard

Friday 28-Mar-14 through Sunday 30-Mar-14

Too lazy to actually type out a whole story-thing for this, since I have so many posts that I need to get put up.  So…. synopsis!

Friday = chill, relax, watch movies and eat pizza while Lizzie and Chris go to Jose’s Mexican down the street… and get food poisoning.  Huh.  So staying home actually saved me for once.

Saturday = Slow morning, where I actually cook breakfast for the first time since being sick. It’s kind of gross and raining outside, so… gaming.  Then, climbing at BRG with Kayla and hanging out at her place for a bit.  Was fun.

Sunday = Brunch at the Asgard with Rachel, though we didn’t realize that it was hosting a post-run meetup for all the runners.  So… to say that it was loud is an understatement.  But after brunch, which wasn’t bad at all, we hit up the MIT Museum.  From there I hit up Brooklyn Boulders to do some climbing with Kel, where we found out that a TEDx @ BKB event was happening.  It was… interesting.  I got to hear the lead singer from Dresden Dolls talk about being a hippy, which was interesting.  Though kind of strange.  First dinner was Ramen a-la Kel’s roommate, and second dinner was Taco Tuesday Sunday Edition with tacos @ Emma’s house with both Emma and Jamie.  Then chatting, relaxing, and home for bed.

A southwestern Christmas – Vacation in Arizona

Sunday, 22-Dec-13 through Saturday, 28-Dec-13

Monday, 23-Dec-13

  • Up and at em early! 10:00, nice! I’m actually getting used to waking up early! … ohh wait, time difference. 13:00 my time. Oops. Yeah… still in college mode, I guess. Darn.
  • But it’s ok, sleeping late is a good thing on vacation. So I hang out a bit, take a shower, and take a nice walk around the complex with my dad and the puppies. Breakfast and coffee finish out the relaxing and slow morning. A good start to vacation.
  • Dad and I chat and hang out a bit, then make a simple lunch of sandwiches and more coffee (note the trend here), then I set up a chair in the back yard and sit in the sun writing and playing flash games on the iPod… amazing! I needed the sunlight, I’d forgotten how excellent it is. Definitely makes me miss fall / summer.
  • After relaxing a bit more, I head out with Dad to mail my car payment, since it had been soaked in Gin on Friday. Thankfully I’d left it in a plastic baggie full of rice, so it’s nicely dried out by now… wonder how the rice tastes though. Guess I’ll find out someday.
  • We hit the post office roughly 20min before it closes, and get the mail in the box right on time. From there we head over to Home Depot to look at components for a project, then back home for dinner!
  • Dinner is made by Denise, and it’s a full-sized three-pound seared roast… I think I need to learn how to make this. It’s amazing – cooked fast on the grill, so the outside is lightly charred, and the inside is a perfect warm red. We eat while watching old Christmas movies; I finally get to watch Christmas in St. Louis & The Bells of Saint Marys! Denise and Marlon rave about these, so I’ve heard about them for years. They definitely live up to the hype though.
  • We all hang out and chat a bit more, then an early bedtime so’s we can get moving earlier in the morning.
