Saint Patrick’s Day in Dublin, 2025!

Standard

Sunday, 16-March-2025

I can’t believe I’m going to write a short post about my first St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland.

But, as strange as it may sound? St. Paddies day here was move low-key than any that I’d had in Boston. Maybe that’s saying something… something about how we don’t celebrate the things that are all around us?

Feels reasonable, speaking as the guy who still hasn’t been on Boston’s eponymous Duck Boats, or to the Statue of Liberty, or any other of a thousand little touristy things…

Anyways, a whole group of us MBA students got together for the adventure. We went to the parade. We went to a bar. We drank at least one Guinness… POSSIBLY even two! Not more than three, though, truthfully, since it was really just a slightly crazy madhouse. Think Boston, on a calm-ish Thursday night after the Red Sox have won a game that isn’t particularly important. Or any Saturday in Dublin, really.

Bastille Day Fireworks!

Standard

Sunday, 14-July-2024

Sunday was Bastille Day, the equivalent to the 4th of July in the US, and that meant fireworks.

The evening before, while my Mom and Steve and I were out having our (metaphorically) tearful goodbye dinner, we’d been graced with a full regalia of uniformed band members marching up and down the streets of Cassis, rocking out to what I assume was the French National Anthem. It was fun, we joined in on the celebrations, and appreciated the chance to experience another culture’s independence day events.

The next evening, while I was rolling solo again, I’d already made dinner and was absentmindedly flicking my way through YouTube when I heard a sound from the harbor, and quickly realized that darkness had fallen and fireworks had kicked off!

I quickly zipped upstairs to the glorious balcony that our apartment came with, and set my chair up to be fully laid back… and enjoyed the show.
