The flight from Brussels to Dublin

Holy crap it’s happening.

I woke up, grabbed my bags, called a cab, and… I was at Brussels Airport. Grabbed some food, walked onto the plane, and…

Well, my trip isn’t done yet. I see my “Grand Adventure” as continuing through the middle of August, when I’ll hopefully have a new apartment and be settling into a new life in Dublin… but this flight really was a turning point in the adventure.

I’d be exploring Dublin, no doubt about it, but I’d be exploring in a different light – I’ve been a tourist for three long and amazing months, and would not be switching roles into a “new resident”… someone exploring to find places to re-visit, versus someone exploring to see the highlights.

It was a lovely, and slightly overwhelming, flight to Ireland. I sat, appreciated the flight, and considered what my new life in Dublin would be looking like…

Ohh yeah, about the weird bathroom picture.

Seriously, just look at it. How nice is that bathroom? That’s a damn nice bathroom. Wish we had bathrooms that nice in the US…

My flight to Oslo!

I found myself back at Keflavik airport, right on time but still sooner than I’d hoped.

Check in was, as has been throughout Europe, simple and quick. In all honesty, I don’t quite remember the details, as I’m writing this out just over a week later. I had my new duffel bag for my checked gear, which worked simply and easily… Once that was done, I flew through security and was eating an Acai bowl and sipping a latte before I knew what had happened.

I think, in all candor, the toughest part of Keflavik is how far it is from Reykjavik. The 45min drive took longer than anything else I can think of.

I ate, sipped, relaxed and read my book. I hung out at the gate, once they announced it, which only happened about an hour before we started boarding, and then quickly and easily hopped on the plane.

Iceland passed below us, and I went through photos while watching the sea ice pass below the plane. Slowly it opened up to ocean water. I started seeing oil platforms, then islands, then wind farms on the islands! Then… Oslo!

Flying to Iceland

Two days later, and a few dollars more expensive… but my flight from Greenland to Iceland was as quick and simple as I could have possibly asked for. My Airbnb host dropped me off at Nuuk airport, I checked my bags, I grabbed a latte, and our flight was delayed.

I read my book, accidentally tried to board the wrong plane (thank you, gate agents, for catching me!), boarded the correct plane, went through the quickest security check I’ve ever encountered, and… then we flew.

Over mountains and ice flows, glaciers and oceans.

To Iceland!
