Biscuits, Archery, Tea, and a walk

I’ve missed doing in-town adventure days with friends… you know the type, when you have a kind of scavenger hunt planned out, going from one spot to another? Adventures, excitement, and exploration!

Well, a friend of mine mentioned that she’d be interested in Archery… so we planned it up and found a weekend day we could check it out!

The day started at Pine State Biscuits, of course, with a beautifully inspirational little inscription in the sidewalk next to where I parked. We ate, chatted, and I finally got to meet her dog!

Then archery, where I stepped up and didn’t do too poorly with my aim… though, honestly, nothing too exciting of note went down. I did try and see if I could contend for the Guinness World Record for fastest 10 arrows shot (currently held at ~39s)… but it wasn’t quite as easy as I expected. Not surprising, though I did come close… I could probably do it in 50s without practice, so… maybe something I’ll work on over the next month or two. We’ll see.

From there I split ways from my friend, taking a wandering tour of the small town we’d found ourselves in. That’s something I realize that I’ve missed, from previous lives… just wandering and exploring an unexpected area that I find myself in. I mean, why would I wander downtown Milwaukee, right? But I was there for the archery range, and because of that I found a beautiful little tea shop with exceptionally fancy drinks on offer.

I ordered up a pot of Chai, with some pork buns, and sat and reflected on what comes next in my life. Tides are shifting and changes are coming, so those quiet moments of reflection are becoming more and more critical. For now, though, I just enjoyed my new surroundings and an excellent cup of tea.

Oregon Snow

Wilsonville, and the Portland are in general, don’t tend to get much snow. Once or twice a year we get a bit of a storm, everything shuts down, and I get the chance to smell the beautifully cold air of the snow from the comfort of my own neighborhood.

This year was no different – As the middle of January came around, we got a storm, and everything (except my office, for some reason…) shut down. I ended up working from home, and so was able to appreciate the impressive sheet of ice that covered the world around me. It wasn’t as intense as that one ice storm back in… 2021, maybe…? but it was definitely a good chance to strap on my crampons and go out for a winter adventure!

Pancakes included, obviously. Along with a bite of gloriously home-made ramen, and a cup of coffee from a lovely little cafe nearby that also braved the storm!

A lovely Wilsonville Sunset

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted up a simple sunset picture from my work.

That one tree – my dear readers probably know exactly which tree I’m talking about – is always so perfectly framed by a good sunset. Now that snow’s come to Wilsonville, it adds just a little bit of extra beauty to the view.

So please – enjoy. Enjoy the quiet of a snowy evening, when everyone’s stayed home. The cold air, the foggy breath, and the clear sky as the sun dips down.
