An end of an era – Leaving Raytheon

Standard

29-Feb-2024

The door closed behind me, and an era officially ended. My nearly 6 years at Raytheon came to close surprisingly quietly, just like the door closing behind me as I walked out to my car. The only difference from any other day was that I had a box of my various desk personalizations with me, and that I didn’t have my badge around my neck.

I wasn’t even walked out by anyone, officially… just a coworker who happened to be nearby, who helped me carry a few things. My boss had left early that day, just asking me to leave my things on his desk. The wasn’t an exit interview, or an official handoff… I did a handoff to three coworkers myself, just since it felt like the right thing to do, but…

“This is the way the world end. Not with a bang, but with a whimper.”

Mind you, none of this was a surprise to me. I’ve experienced enough junctures in my life to know that none of them have big fan fair, or trumpets or fireworks. When I handed my 2-weeks notice in, this was what I expected to happen. I’d take two weeks to prepare my handoff, give it to the coworkers who would need it, and then… I’d leave. Raytheon wouldn’t change, the day to day would look a little different… but in the end, the world would march on.

I’ll miss my coworkers, and the little walks that we’d take around the campus. I’ll miss the products, and the interesting projects.

But in the end, this is simply another transition into another adventure.

I’m excited!

Note – forgive the censoring… Not that it really matters, but I figure its best not to broadcast all the emails and other details, you know?
