Post Thanksgiving adventures – Saddle Mountain

This year, we went hiking after Thanksgiving.

Our first target was Saddle Mountain, and it didn’t go quite as planned.

The plan that it didn’t go quite as was that we’d park at the trailhead, cook up some hotdogs, ascend, maybe make some more hot dogs, and then descend and head home.

Instead, we parked about two miles away from the trailhead, where the road was closed, and hiked in.  Once we got to the real trailhead we cooked up some hotdogs, found an elk jaw, and then hiked in about a mile and a half before turning around before we lost daylight.

Ollie loved the elk jaw, even though we didn’t let her eat it.  We’re so mean.  She didn’t mind too much though, since she was busy running around the woods… which is almost as good as food and/or elk bones.

The hike itself was beautiful, and the sunlight was amazing!  It was an amazingly clear day, and we could easily see the ocean from our turnaround point, even though it was a solid few hundred feet below the summit.  The trail was pretty good, though it did have some snow and ice on it at times, and we made pretty good time.

Not much else to say.  We hiked, had a pretty good time, and got down safely.  Good job us.
