A spirited adventure to the Gin Palace

Out across the river in Dublin, there’s a spot called the Gin Palace. I’d heard of it a few times, but hadn’t had an opportunity to go… until now, that is!

All of my classmates are impressive, and I’m having an absolute blast getting to know them all – either working together in teams, grabbing lunches before or after lectures, or heading out to dinner / drinks after we’ve made our escape from the business school. Gin Palace had been up on my list, and so made for a rather lovely opportunity to chat with our class representative, get some feedback from her, and pick her brain for a bit of insight into her leadership journey.

It was absolutely lovely – they had solid food, and teapots full of gin drinks for us to try. We sampled a flight of various uniquely named offerings, realized that the teapot was made a bit stronger than I’d expected, and shared some excellent stories and memories.

Another small step forward in the whole MBA process – building lovely connections, strengthening the social battery, and having a good time while doing all the above.

A bit of exploration around Dublin – Wandering, Teeling, ADHD&D

Continuing on with my exploration of Dublin – I made a point to keep wandering, and keep poking around, as the MBA kicked off and our classes started getting more intense. My friend Brian came to visit, we explored, and I went out with friends from the class! We toured the Teeling distillery, and had a glorious grand old time.

I even got an invite to a pretty cool comedy event in town called “ADHD&D”, a very off-the-wall live D&D game, which was basically a live recording of a dungeons and dragons podcast, where the audience got to participate and help write the story. It was fun, and a grand opportunity to meet up with people both from class, and some friends from outside of class, and just get a good bit of exposure to “Dublin Craic”, just general good times.

Hiking Glendalough, a second time, with the MBA folks!

I’m still getting my Irish hiking legs under me – I don’t know the areas, the rules, or the systems nearly as well as I’d gotten to know New Hampshire, or Oregon, and so adventures are a bit more challenging to put together.

Thankfully, the MBA program comes pre-equipped with friends who are in the same boat as me, and are interested in getting adventures in!

This time, we headed to a spot that I’d gotten to know earlier in the year – Glendalough, a beautiful circuit hike around a lake down South of Dublin in the Wicklow Mountains. I met up with my friends in the morning, we grabbed a rental car, and took to the road on our way to adventure!

The drive was lovely – I’d gotten comfortably used to driving on the left side of the road by this point, though I did still need to keep one part of my brain focused on it, and so was able to chat pretty easily while we ground out the miles (kilometers) to our adventure. We talked, we listed to music, we enjoyed the escape from the city.

We hiked, I flew the drone a bit, we said hi to the natives (deer!), and enjoyed the clear air and lovely weather. We snacked, we got some food from the nacho truck at the parking lot, and reveled in the fact that we were in Ireland!

It was, as always, absolutely lovely.
